Welcome to the New Year!
There is something magical to me about this time of the year. A New Year, and a new start. This is also a new chance to reset, and to recalibrate goals for 2018. Some things may have gone well in 2017, others not so well. Some things may need complete fixing! There is no better time than the present to focus on continuous improvement.
One area that has often been overlooked is in the management of paper records. In this past year I’ve shared with you many stories that pertain to companies flooding or catching fire, and how the loss of records can and has destroyed their businesses.
A Coopers and Libran study stated that “companies spend an average of $ 20.00 in labor to file a document, $ 120.00 in labor to find a misfiled document, and $ 200.00 in labor to reproduce a lost document, “7.5% of all documents get lost, AND 3% of the remainder get misfiled”.
You have a document imaging system? Have the paper files been input into it yet? This can be a laborious and time consuming and expensive process in house. Perhaps it’s time to consider out sourcing the back file scanning to a company that can get it done for you at a lower cost and a faster turnaround.
We really don’t know what the New Year will bring, but we can guess and we can plan, and as the saying goes, the best way to predict the future is to simply create it!
